Four Day Courses

Day 1 - Leadership in the Public Sector
Instructor: Ronnie Haas
• Identify the benefits and challenges of managing in the public sector
• Recognize the characteristics of effective management and leadership
• Discuss the theory behind the models of management and leadership
• Assess individual leadership styles
• Integrate effective leadership styles into relevant management scenarios

Day 2 - Managing Group Dynamics
Instructor: Jeffery Davis
• Understand the impact of different personality types on workplace dynamics
• Describe techniques for achieving better workplace communication within your department, both one-on-one and in team situations
• Determine which stage of development a team is in, and develop an action plan to assist the team to achieve higher performance
• Identify skills and techniques used for efficiently handling conflict situations within the workplace

Day 3 – Set Yourself Free: Tools to Manage the Most Challenging Situations
Instructor: Jaclyn Kugell, Esquire
• Tools for effective performance management
• Overview of the various laws impacting the employment relationship: Family & medical leave, wage & hour laws, record keeping obligations, and discrimination laws
• How to better manage the hiring process and assist in selecting the best
candidates for the job
• Learn about the common misconceptions concerning workplace privacy rules

Day 4 – Workplace Communications for Difficult Situations
Instructor: Charlotte Kells
• Identify key challenges & barriers to effective communication
• Utilize tools to prevent defensiveness in communicating tough messages
• Describe an ideal model for communicating with stakeholders
• Learn communication tools for ensuring effective inquiry & advocacy
• Practice using a balance of inquiry & advocacy to create true dialogue in difficult conversations
• Identify key criteria to use for effective writing
